Irish musical polymath New Jackson has announced the release of his third studio album, OOPS!… POP, slated for release on April 19th, 2024 via the prestigious Munich-based label Permanent Vacation. The first two singles released from the album, ‘Out Of Reach’ and ‘The Ok Hole’, were released on March 8th, 2024. Recorded across the span of five years and three different countries, New Jackson has carefully crafted nine tracks of exhilarating electronica in this promising new LP.
In the time since his debut back in 2011, New Jackson has slowly refined his craft, with this upcoming album showcasing his indelible artistry. The pre-released singles serve as a tasty appetizer for what is to come. ‘Out of Reach’ is an irresistibly danceable synth pop anthem, with pulsing rhythms, a catchy chorus and sparkly synth stabs. ‘The OK Hole’ is contrastingly trippier, dreamer and somewhat darker – yet still full of movement. The title, a witty nod to the unfortunate slide into a k-hole experienced by many a raver, suggests that while such an experience may be scary, it can still be beautiful and fun, and everything is going to be okay. Rolling drum machine rhythms, atmospheric synths and moody, haunting sound design with lo-fi, minimal vocal samples sprinkled in create a track that is introspective and dizzying, yet danceable.
The album as a whole offers the listener a sonic odyssey of eclectic electronica, never steering entirely towards a single genre. It is captivating and meticulously composed and produced with crystalline clarity, with nods to the new wave rhythms and synths of the eighties beautifully meeting the vast array of modern electronic dance music influences.
